Sunbury announce 2019 Youth Women’s Head Coach

The Sunbury Basketball Association are pleased to announce the appointment of their newest head coach for the next three seasons.

The Sunbury Basketball Association are pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Tighe as the Youth Women’s Coach for the next three seasons.

All candidates were subjected to a rigorous interview process by our interview panel, made up of SBA President Shane O’Connell, WNBL Dandenong Rangers Assistant Coach and Rangers SEABL Head Coach John White and our senior men’s Captain Arthur Trousdell. The panel was extremely pleased with Chris’s level of technical knowledge, experience and how his vision aligned with the direction of the clubs. Chris was voted as the panels preferred candidate and was offered the position.

Chris is no stranger to senior level basketball having most recently assisted with the Big V State Championship Women’s side at Sunbury. He was a major contributor in the past two Championships. Chris has also spent some time around the WNBL with the Townsville Fire from the 2010 to 2012 and has previously worked as the SBA Junior Development Officer. Chris currently leads the CBL Kyneton Tigers as its Head Coach in the Country Basketball League. Chris had this to say about his appointment;

“I am excited to step into the role of Head Coach for the 2019 season. I am lucky to have a good base to build on. Apart from the obvious focus of winning games, I am hoping my experience with the SCW program can help make the transition for athletes to the senior team seamless.”

With the clubs rising success in the Youth League realm and a number of key senior players close to aging out. The SBA has made it a priority to start linking this program to some of our junior teams to maintain a steady pool of talent for all senior teams.

“I am looking forward to working with our Under 16 and 18 programs in identifying local talent who have the drive to compete at the next level. With these two focuses we can build a strong link from our junior to senior representative programs.”

The SBA is confident that the Youth League Women’s program will gain promotion into Youth Championship and is looking forward to seeing the program grow under Chris’s leadership. The SBA would like to wish him the very best in his new role.

Lastly the SBA would like to thank Andrew Seidel for his many years of service to the Youth League Women’s program, including leading our Youth teams to consecutive championships. The SBA is working with Andrew to find him a suitable role within the senior Big V program.
