RMIT Redbacks are running open tryouts for both their Division Two Women’s and Men’s teams.
Players are invited to join the Redbacks at Montmorency Secondary College on Sunday 6th and 13th of December for an opportunity to earn a spot in the Big V squad.
Women’s tryouts will commence from 3.30pm on both days and Men’s from 5.30pm.
With the association ready to return to the floor, the 2021 Big V season will hold even more meaning for the Redbacks’ Division Two Women’s team.
The team were planned to debut in the 2020 season however, with the season cancelation due to COVID-19, this milestone was pushed back.
The Women’s team are sure to make a mark on the competition in 2021 with Gary Jones as their Head Coach. Jones said it has been a long wait to unleash RMIT’s Women’s team.
“At last, our sport has been given the go ahead to recommence with such a lengthy layoff,” he explained.
“The challenge our senior women team face as a first season Big V team is establishing a culture. We were certainly on the right road last season with the players and coaching staff all embracing the culture we were trying to establish. We can’t wait for 2021!”
The Men’s team are also raring to go. They’ll pick up where they left off at the start of 2020 with their new head coach Ollie Reid. The club believes his passion and experience will lead them well in 2021.
When asked about next year, Reid said he thinks people aren’t quite prepared for the impact RMIT will make on the competition.
He said, “After a long break from basketball, myself and everyone at RMIT are looking forward to energising the program, the players and getting our students onboard,
“I feel like RMIT are the sleeping giants of the competition with plenty to prove!”
The RMIT Redbacks are just getting started and there is plenty to come as we see their reputation grow.
