Basketball Victoria and Lifeline Australia are teaming up for an inaugural Mental Health Round that will span across VJBL, Big V and NBL1 South this June.
This partnership will see an emphasis placed on mental health and wellbeing across the leagues from June 25-27.
Lifeline Australia is a non-profit organisation that provides free, 24-hour telephone crisis support service in Australia to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Each year, over one million Australians reach out to Lifeline for support and Lifeline’s crisis support line receives a call every 30 seconds.
Statement orange Lifeline socks will be worn during the inaugural Mental Health Round in the VJBL, Big V and NBL1 South competitions.
These socks will be made available for pre-order before the round via the Basketball Victoria Online Shop for $10 a pair with all profits going to Lifeline Australia.
Basketball Victoria’s League and Competitions General Manager, Dean Anglin, urged all players, coaches and clubs to get on board with this initiative in 2021 and be involved in something that is set to make history.
“I am excited for this initiative to contribute towards such an important cause while uniting all of our Basketball Victoria leagues on the same weekend,” Anglin said.
“On the back end of a global pandemic, support and awareness for mental health is more important than ever, and we hope this round provides an avenue for all members inside and outside of basketball to prioritise their wellbeing.
“Basketball Victoria understand that individuals in the basketball community may be vulnerable to mental health struggles and this round is about emphasising the importance of reaching out for help,
“It’s ok not to be ok and it’s important to us to keep all our players safe and healthy.”
Associations can order the Mental Health Round socks in bulk for their entire teams or send their participants to the Basketball Victoria shop to buy individually.
Delivery will be for pick up from your local association whereby Basketball Victoria will liaise with each club for a bulk delivery.
You can purchase these special socks to celebrate this Mental Health Round, with all the proceeds going to Lifeline Australia.
