Western Port seeking applications for 2019 head coaching positions

Western Port Steelers are seeking applications for their Head Coaching positions of both Youth 2 Teams and its Senior Women’s side.

In what poses to be an exciting year ahead, 2019 will see the Steelers move back in to their home venue “The Steelerdome” just in time for the Big V season.

The Western Port Basketball program has a history of providing both players and coaches success and the best pathways to reach their full potential.

All positions are suitable to someone who is an excellent communicator, well-structured and a keen eye for development. We are looking for people who have experience in coaching but most importantly, will work with current visons of the association.

Women’s Team Head Coach

The Western Port Basketball Association is continually striving to be a Big V force on the Mornington Peninsula, 2018 saw both senior teams competing in division One and having both a female and male team competing in the youth league divisions.

Head Coach’s Primary Objectives –

To develop and sustain a strong core group of players to compete in the Big V, whilst building a pathway for Western Port Junior Steelers through our VJBL and Youth league programs. Work with our Youth League Women’s coach and under the directions of the senior representative committee, general committee and WPBA Staff.

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • NCAS Level One Accreditation or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated history in basketball with a passion to develop.
  • • Demonstrated knowledge & understanding at the desired level
  • Able to lead, train and communicate with players in a disciplined, professional and informative manner.
  • • Work effectively with key stakeholders.
  • • Attend all training sessions, games and tournaments.
  • Ability to work with WPBA Junior representative coaches and players.
  • • Strong communications skills
  • • Share coaching philosophies & knowledge
  • • Adhere to the Basketball Victoria Codes of Conduct & Big V relative policies
  • Adhere to the Western Port Big V Program Policies to ensure the achievement of desired outcomes

Remuneration for the position is negotiable

Youth League Two Men’s and Women’s Head Coach

The Western Port Basketball Association is continually striving to be a Big V force on the Mornington Peninsula, currently with both senior teams competing in division One and having both a female and male team competing in the youth league divisions.

Youth League Head Coach’s Primary Objectives –

To work under the guidance of the Senior Big V Coach whilst being able to lead and develop a competitive team. A key eye will be needed to ensure the youth league program can be a sustainable one with a focus on WPBA junior representative players.

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • NCAS Level One Accreditation or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated history in basketball with a passion to develop.
  • Demonstrated knowledge & understanding at the desired level
  • Able to lead, train and communicate with players in a disciplined, professional and informative manner.
  • • Work effectively with key stakeholders.
  • • Attend all training sessions, games and tournaments.
  • Ability to work with WPBA Junior representative coaches and players.
  • • Monitor Junior Steelers teams to identify Talent with potential to train and/or play in Youth teams.
  • • Recruitment of both senior and junior players for the Big V squads
  • Work closely with the Senior coach and meet on a regular basis at a mutually agreed time to discuss the program and suggest anyways to improve it.
  • Submit Team list to SRC for ratification within 21 Days After last tryout session.
  • • Strong communications skills
  • • Share coaching philosophies & knowledge
  • Provide a summary report of the performance of the youth team at the end of the season.
  • • Adhere to the Basketball Victoria Codes of Conduct & Big V relative policies
  • Adhere to the Western Port Big V Program Policies to ensure the achievement of desired outcomes
