Steelers add firepower to Men’s roster

The Western Port Steelers are thrilled to announce the signing of their 2019 men’s import.

The Western Port Steelers Division One Men’s team look to continue their strong form after signing Tanner Samson as their import for 2019.

Tanner is a 6’4 guard from NCAA Division 1 Elon University in North Carolina, graduating as the schools all time leading three point shooter as well as ranking in their all time top ten in several other categories.

After graduating Tanner worked out with his hometown Denver Nuggets before signing to play professionally in Spain for the next two seasons.

Head Coach Luke Sunderland has this to say, ‘I’ve been able to follow Tanners progress since his college playing days and had the chance to see him in person a few years ago.  He comes highly recommended from his coaches at Elon for his on court abilities as well as his off court character.  Tanner will be able to fit into our team and community effortlessly and we are all looking forward to having him on board as a Steeler for 2019.’

From Samson,

‘I am excited and thankful to Coach Luke and I look forward to getting to Australia and getting to work with the team soon.

I am very eager to come play for a great organisation and team that has the goal to do whatever it takes to win.’

By pure coincidence, Tanner and 2018 import Dylan Travis were junior teammates growing up in Omaha before Tanners family moved to Colorado. This was instrumental in recruiting Samson to the team.

‘I have known Dylan since I was 12 years old and we were teammates for a few years growing up. When I spoke to him about his overall experience in Australia he said not only was the basketball aspect amazing, but he spoke highly of the people in the area and how fans were very supportive of the team.’

Tanner will arrive in late January to join his teammates to build onto their successful 2018 season.
