This weekend Simone “Simo” Caruana celebrates her 100th Big V Game when she steps out for the Warrandyte Venom Youth League side. 100 games is a wonderful achievement for someone who is still only 19 years of age and has had some early injury woes in her career.

Simone began playing Big V for the Venom as a 14 year old in the youth league side. Simone is an undersized big who continues to amaze as she battles out of her weight division and yet pulls down huge rebounding numbers. Simone has numerous finals berths under her belt and a prized championship in 2013. Simone will have the opportunity to look back over her 100 games and reflect on how far she has come.

As per the standard she sets for her teammates Simone will no doubt set herself for not only a memorable milestone game this Saturday but hopefully another successful run at the finals for Season 2016. Simone has spent her time under two head coaches in Nicole Howard and Ange Heigh and they had this to say about the Venom youngster;

“I remember 2011 it was our first season in Big V Youth League and Simone entered the squad as a young junior. Instantly Simone earned the respect of her teammates and coaching staff with her work ethic and encouraging nature. She had some tough injuries early on but drew on major mental toughness and became a vital piece of the team despite the setbacks. Simone’s numbers continue to astound us. She is a great example of a hard worker getting greatness out of herself week in, week out. It is an outstanding achievement to have reached the 100 milestone, but a testament to her skill and commitment. I look forward to watching her get out there on Saturday night for game 100” says Howard.

“In the time I have coached Simone she has always given 110%. Simone is an all round player utilising her strength and agility at both ends of the floor and will always put the team first. A big congrats to Simone on her 100th game! Hopefully only one of many milestones for Simone and her basketball!” says Heigh.

No doubt the Venom fans will get down to Warrandyte Sports Complex on Saturday night for a 6:30pm tip off to support Simone and her youth league team as they face the McKinnon Cougars.
