Maccabi add NBL veteran to coaching staff

The Maccabi Warriors have added NBL veteran Steve Hoare to their already extensive coaching panel.

The Maccabi Warriors are very excited to add Steve Hoare as the new Assistant Coach for the Youth Two Men’s team, joining the esteemed Al Westover (head coach) for Big V season 2019.

Steve’s playing highlights included NBL championships, which were in fact coached by Al and they now transfer from player/coach to coach/coach role.

Steve Hoare had an illustrious 16 year career in the NBL which endured 462 games across five franchises. With nine years with the Melbourne Tigers, Hoare also travelled across to the West Sydney Razorbacks (two years), North Melbourne Giants (two years), Gold Coast Blaze (two years) and the Townsville Crocodiles (one year).

He was twice named an NBL champion in both 2005 and 07, as well as being awarded the league’s Sixth Man of the Year twice in 2005 and 06. He was named an NBL All Star in 2004.

In between all that, Hoare plied his trade in the SEABL with over 260 games across 1993 and 2012.

Since venturing to the sideline, Hoare has been the Head Coach of Sandringham’s SEABL Men’s program, while also coaching at a high level in Victorian school basketball, leading the Mentone Grammar senior basketball team.

We look forward to seeing Steve team up with Al Westover to form a formidable coaching partnership at Maccabi.

The Big V season tips off on March 16.
