Ringwood Hawks jet off to India for off-season basketball


The Ringwood Hawks will take their basketball talents overseas, when the senior women's program travel to India to take part in an exhibition series against a Kerala All Star women's team.

Led by head coach Tim Mottin, the Hawks will enter a five game series, titled the International Hoopthalon Series in early November has been on the cards for some time now.

With the series commencing on November 5 in Kochi, the Hawks will travel to Thrissur, Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode in the space of eight days.

Ringwood's senior women's teams both made finals in season 2017, with the State Championship Women bowing out in the opening week of the playoffs to a strong Knox Raiders outfit by a point. The Victorian Youth Championship Women's side making the grand final, going down to Sandringham in two games.

India are starting to place a real emphasis on their global basketball footprint, with their national women's side winning the FIBA Asian Championship Division B defeating Kazakhstan on home soil.

Key players in that squad Jeena Scaria, Grima Merlin and P.S. Anjana are expected to suit up against the Hawks.
