Import Janita Badon to set the All Stars alight

The Collingwood All Stars Women’s team is delighted to announce the recruitment of US basketballer Janita Badon.

Having recently landed in Melbourne, Janita joins the All Stars for their Round 5 clash against the Keysborough Cougars.

According to All Stars coach Joe Borg, the 170 cm point guard is expected to make an immediate impact.

“Janita has demonstrated an ability to consistently score herself, while also creating scoring opportunities for others. She is a dynamic player with superb ball handling abilities and the team can’t wait for her to hit the floor,” said Mr Borg.

Janita’s previous experience includes a four year stint as captain of the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, United States) basketball team and more recently, time with UE Mataro (Spain) and Melbourne University closer to home.

Janita’s career accomplishments at the University of Utah are numerous. She finished her career ranking third all-time with 578 assists, second all-time with 235 steals, fourth all-time in average assists (4.5) and fourth in defensive rebounds (550). Her career total of 1,136 points places her 16th all-time at the University of Utah.

Janita can’t wait to get on the court for the All Stars and help the team in their first year of competition. “I’ve heard lots of great things about the Club and I’m looking forward to being involved with junior and youth development. Melbourne is a beautiful city and I'm happy to call Collingwood home".

Club President Caroline Dever says Janita will be a welcome addition to both the Collingwood All Stars Women’s team and the broader All Stars community.

“Janita’s talents go well beyond her on-court abilities as a basketballer. Janita will be involved with a number of our programs, from Beginner and Access for All Abilities through to our High Performance Programs. We are looking forward to her contribution towards further developing and strengthening our basketball programs,” said Ms Dever.

In this broader capacity, Janita will work alongside back-to-back Big V MVP Manny Hendrix, captain of the Collingwood All Stars Big V Men’s team, who also hails from Salt Lake City, Utah.
