Eagles add great cultural fit in Burton

Our Big V State Championship Women are pleased to announce the signing of young gun, Kasey Burton for season 2017. Kasey comes to us with a wealth of experience at junior and senior level – having represented Victoria and Victoria Country in Australian Junior Championships, attended Australian U19 Gems selection camps, been a Melbourne Boomers Development Player for 2 years and now on the main roster, and has spent 4 years representing her hometown Ballarat Rush in the SEABL competition.

‘We’re looking forward to the addition of Kasey to our group – yet another young, versatile athlete who works hard and fits our culture’, Head Coach Dee states.

‘I admire the way she goes about her Basketball, is always on time and prepared and always gives you her best effort. She’s a gritty and tough defender and this season will give her the opportunity and challenge to step up her game and become even more well rounded on the offensive end.’

In her 4 seasons in SEABL, Kasey’s production increased each year and her versatility as a player is shown by career averages of 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists. What can’t be counted as a stat, but is a major part of what makes Kasey an elite player, is her defense and overall grit and competitiveness. She will defend guards and posts alike and plays every possession like it’s the final one in a championship game – playing to win.

‘It feels like a new beginning for me, a fresh start and chance to take my development to the next level’, Kasey explains.

‘I have worked with Dee before in the Victorian U20 Women’s team and at Australian Gems camps and I like her no-nonsense, business like approach. She has had years of experience playing the sport and I’m excited to be shown the benchmarks of the next level and try to add them to my game’.

‘Kasey is an athlete who plays hard at both ends of the floor and has had exposure to elite levels of junior and senior Basketball at a young age and we hope that she can bring that experience and work ethic to our State Championship Women’s program in 2017’, DVBA CEO Ross Wignell adds.
