Western Port's Fab-5 returns in 2017

Western Port is proud to announce the core of the 2016 DIV II Championship team will return. Keeping a talented group of guys the juniors can recognize, and be inspired by which was important to the coach and club. Ricki Dehaan (Captain), Matt Orchard, Chris Taylor, Tyler Molloy, and Peder Whelan have all resigned for the 2017 season.

Ricki is a proven All Star player who has been nominated for MVP and All Star Five the past two seasons. He is a proven winner who has gotten better each year playing at the point guard position. Ricki has a killer instinct and great work ethic two things you look for in your best player. Signing Ricki a player who can take over a game is very important to Western Port's chances to win another championship in 2017.

Matty O is a proven defensive player who can score in bunches from the perimeter, and change a game with his energy and effort. He was the teams 2nd leading scorer and in the eyes of many was the best guard defender in the league last season. He defended the others team best guard and held a few under double figures.

Chris is a smart versatile player who does a lot on the court, and is so unselfish he often over passes. Chris was the teams 3rd leading scorer however it's his basketball instincts that makes him a great fit with the team. It's worth mentioning Western Port were undefeated when Chris scored double figures in points. Tyler is the perfect team player who can knock down the elbow/midrange jumper. His ability to dribble, pass, shoot, and defend is key to the team’s success. Tyler has a high basketball IQ, great attitude, and he was awarded Western Port’s most improved player.

Peder is a fan and team favourite and has now proven to be one of the best Big Men in the Big V. In only two seasons in the Big V Peder has been nominated for defensive player of the year both seasons. This past season he was also nominated for MVP and Big V All Star Five. Peder has a great work ethic, great character, and is one of the most dedicated players on the team. His development has been a crucial part to the team’s success at both ends of the floor. Since joining the team.
