Ayinde ready to get Giants season back on track

Coburg Giants are pleased to announce the signing of our newest import Ayinde Sprewell for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Coburg Giants recruit Ayinde Sprewell is ready to make a big splash on the Big V Divison 2 Competition and lead his side to a championship. Before this weekend the Giants were sitting in 7th place with a win-loss record of 1-3. A disappointing start to say nonetheless, but the addition of Sprewell will have the Giants hopeful of turning their season around.

After complications with his visa, Sprewell was finally cleared last week to make his much anticipated debut for the Giants in a much needed win against the Altona Gators in round 5. 32 points, 71FG%, 6 rebounds, 5-6 3PM, 2 steals and 3 assists in 24minutes.

Hailing from Orlando, Florida in the USA, Ayinde is the nephew of former NBA all-star Letrell Sprewell, who he says had a "significant impact" on his basketball career. He moved through the ranks in the basketball system in the States, playing two years of junior college before playing a year at Western Kentucky.

Now in Australia, ‘Spree', as he is dubbed by his teammates, is really keen on hitting the ground running in his debut season for the Giants and making a profound mark on the league.

"What I want to bring is a championship, move to Division 1 hopefully, and play with Coburg through the years".

"I think I'll definitely bring an amazing impact to the team and the league because I don't think they have seen a player of my athleticism, speed, and hops. I bring something different from other imports".

In terms of his major attributes, "athleticism, ball handling, getting to the basket and shooting ability" will see him set apart from the rest, something that is special that will take the league by storm and turn the Giants season around.

As for his time in Australia, things could not have been more welcoming for Sprewell, thoroughly enjoying his stay so far in the country.

"It has been great, really. Every one of my team mates has helped me from day one. They've really mentored me and I got really close with Mark Rigoni and Mike Torres, about playing my role and really just helping me out with plays and off the court activities."

And as far as future aspirations, Sprewell still has his dream well and truly fixed in his mind. "My dreams are to play in the NBA or NBL, one of those leagues preferably."

Sprewell also loves to watch Derrick Rose and Lebron James and models his game around those two players somewhat, so if Sprewell can be anything close to what these two stars of the modern game have been, then he will go far with his career.

Their next home game is on Saturday the 7th of May, 8:30pm at the Coburg Basketball Stadium. You can catch Sprewell don the Giants colours and the rest of the Division 2 men's side as they look to turn their season around!
