Q&A With Import Kale Harrison

Work Experience kid Max Cody interviews McKinnon Cougars import Kale Harrison on his debut season and his future endeavors.

What was the most memorable moment of the 2012/2013 season? I would say the very first game of the regular season. I came here having no idea what Australian basketball was like, not knowing what the league was like or what to expect from the guys on the team. That first game was home against Warrandyte and I had a pretty good game and we played a style of basketball that I knew would make for a fun season.

If you could choose one person to go to war with from your team who would it be and why? I would say Sean Connor. Partly because he's a real good guy who I know would have my back, but mostly because he's really jacked and scary looking. So even though he has a torn ACL I would still choose him.

What do you like the most about McKinnon? The family atmosphere. From the administration to the players, everyone is really close and genuinely enjoys being around each other both in the stadium and in the office. I have felt at home since day 1.

What are your individual goals for the up and coming season? Firstly I want to stay healthy for the whole year. If I can make that happen then hopefully the rest will take care of itself. I'd like to have a bigger impact defensively and on the boards. Perhaps average a double double.

Which player in your team annoyed you the most last season and why? I would have to go with Bosko. I wouldn't classify him as annoying, but for the purpose of answering your question I would go with him because he asks a million questions.

Who did you find was the hardest to guard last season? I would say Calvin Henry. I didn’t guard him much individually but he was very hard to stop once he got the ball and keep off the boards.

Who is the best player you have ever played against or with? I’ve played against some good players over the years like Stephen Curry and Tristan Thompson. But the best was JJ Barea. I was playing for team Canada at the Pan-American games in Mexico. We played Puerto Rico who had a couple NBA guys on their team and Barea had 35 points and 10 assists. We simply couldn't guard him.

Which NBA player do you often get compared to? Lebron.

What are you planning to do with your life after this season? I’m not sure yet. Depending on how this season plays out I will either come back and play another season or go back to Canada and get a real job.

What do you expect your team to achieve in state championship division this season? I really have no idea what to expect. I have never seen a game of state champ so I don’t know what the talent level is like. But I think with the coaches and players we have we will be competitive.

What is it like playing with Marcus Timmons? Fun. He makes the game easier with his passing and the way he stretches the floor.

What did you find the hardest about moving to Australia? The flight. It takes about 30 hours in total to get to Melbourne from Toronto. It’s a rough trip for a 6'7 guy.
